The City of DeKalb is accepting applications for Entry-Level Police Officers.
Eligibility Requirements:
To be considered, candidates must complete the following steps:
Frontline National Exam & NTN Application: Complete the Frontline National Exam, fill out the NTN Application, and submit the Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ) and Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA).
City of DeKalb Application: Submit the City of DeKalb employment application.
Note: Lateral officers are not required to complete testing and may apply directly through the lateral process.
Salary Information:
Starting: $81,016 annually
After 1 year: $83,782
After 2 years: $94,120
After 3 years: $96,262

Department Overview:
The DeKalb Police Department employs 75 sworn officers and 30 civilian personnel. It is organized into four divisions: Patrol, Administrative Services, Community Support Services, and Investigations. The department's team includes a Chief, Deputy Chief, 4 Commanders, 12 Sergeants, 57 Police Officers, and 2 contracted social workers.

Job Requirements:
Age: Must be at least 21 and under 35, unless exempt under applicable laws. Proof of birthdate required.
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Driver's License: Valid driver's license required.
Language Skills: Must be able to read and speak English.

Disqualifiers:
Felony/Criminal Activity: No felony convictions or crimes involving moral turpitude as outlined in the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners Act.
Driving Record: Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
Residency Requirement:
New hires must establish residency within boundaries outlined in the collective bargaining agreement within 15 months of hire. Additional details are available in the recruitment packet.
